Shamrocks Lacrosse Club - British Columbia Canada
I am pleased to announce some great additions to our Coaching staff for the 2007 season. Dave Bremner and Ron McQuarrie will be joining Head Coach Scott Browning and Rod Banister. Both bring many years of lacrosse success to the program and I am very pleased that they have agreed to join us.
Planning for the 2007 edition of the Intermediate Shamrocks is already underway, with conditioning sessions expected to start in February, and tryouts in mid March.
The end of the Babyrocks 2006 season was a 14 to 8 win over the Nanaimo Timbermen. The young men in green head to the Ferry terminal for the trip home with heads held high and the Bronze Medal. It was a tough, exhausting tournament.
The Babyrocks let it be known that the battle for Island pride was one they took seriously. Victoria played hard at both ends of the floor in the first period, getting goals from Scott Stone, Kyle Cosman, Cam McLean, Matt Yager, and a pair from Michael Pires. At the back end, the D played tight and shut out their rivals from up Island. It was 6 zip at the end of one.
The Shamrocks kept up their hard play, but Nanaimo also cranked it up in the second period. The Timbermen got a pair of goals from Clark, while the Rocks doubled that number with the second from Yager, the third from Pires, and single from Jon Browning and Higgs. The second ended with the Rocks holding a comfortable 10 to 2 lead. Perhaps it was a little bit too comfortable.
Nanaimo took the game to the Rocks a bit in the third period, outscoring their southern rivals 6 to 4 in the final frame. Nanaimo got their markers from: White, the hat trick goal from Clark, Bezuidenhout, and three in the period from the hot stick of Fraser to bring the Timbermen’s total to 8 on the game. Victoria closed out with goals from John Ranns, a pair from Cody Bremner, and the fourth of the game from Pires. The final score: 14 to 8.
The team acquitted themselves well all season and did their best to stick to Shamrock ball. Victoria can be proud of these young men and be assured that the future of lacrosse in green is well in hand as these young men mature.
This is my last report of the season. My thanks go to Ev and Murray and all the staff for inviting me to be a part of the Babyrocks world this year. My thanks go also to Janice Huckin for her help, in particular for bailing me out of a double header report deadline. I hope to see all next year.
